Peacock Springs State Park Update
June, 2002

We held our June meeting on Saturday, the 15th, with about 20 people in attendance.
Azell Nail, park manager, and Wesley Jones, assistant park manager, were present and answered a lot of questions park users had for them. They took the time to explain how to proceed in our goals of future park improvements and gave pointers on procedures we can follow for various committee business.
We thank them for attending our meeting and for all the help they have given the committee.

After the meeting we all enjoyed each others company while eating at our cookout. All the food was donated by committee members; no committee funds were used for the event.

We want to extend our condolences to Jan and Bob Eichenberger on the passing of Jan's
mother. Jan was unable to attend as she had family obligations.

Ranger Jeff Griggs attended and turned in his official resignation as vice- chairman. We wish him well and truly hate to lose his support; he is, however, staying on as a committee member. We unanimously approved the selection of Kelly Jessop to take over Jeff's position with the committee. We feel he will be a great asset to us.

We will not hold meetings for the months of July and August, unless something arises and warrants holding one. We will send updates of any committee news till then.

The next meeting will be held Saturday, September 14th, at noon at the Luraville Country Store.

Cathy Lesh, owner of Dive Outpost, donated $200 to the committee for future improvements projects. We thank her for her generosity.
We will conduct another raffle this fall to raise money for future projects with prizes to be awarded on New Year's Day. We are seeking more dive shops and vendors that use the park to help us with this fundraising project, as the projects we would like to carry out such as a pavilion at Peacock Three, a walkway to Peacock One, or a trail that is laid out on the surface that follows the cave system underground with information stations at various spots along the way, will cost a lot of money. We will be giving out more information at the September meeting concerning the fundraising.

Below is a picture of the addition to the Peacock One steps. The steps were built by Bill Stape. Richard West the park ranger helped Bill to install them after his work day ended, and we thank him for his assistance. As you all know the low water was making it very hard for some and impossible for others to get out of the water after a dive. We thank him for his time and contribution.

Everyone seemed to agree they come in very handy. They are attached to the side of the steps and perched on the rock ledge so they will not get in anyone's way even when the water levels return to normal.
We will be sending membership renewal notices out soon. We have decided to extend some memberships a few months on advice given to us to conduct the renewal drive all at one time, after the start of the new fiscal year.
Thank you,
Janet, Kelly, and Ja
